We are glad you are interested in applying for Prekindergarten, offered by Richland School District One.

Richland One students are assigned to schools according to where they live. All students who live in Richland One’s attendance zone are eligible for admission to our traditional Pre-K program.

Admission is based on successful completion of the application process, which includes:

  • Attending a parent information session
  • Completing this Prekindergarten application (open now) and the New Student Registration application (open March 1)
  • Providing the Office of School Readiness with a Birth Certificate and Proof of Income

The Office of School Readiness will review your application and schedule a screening date. Upon acceptance, students will be released to their zoned school and/or available slot. Additional documents will be required at the school level.

NOTE: Unless you are the parent listed on the birth certificate or have educational rights, you CANNOT register a child or complete the application process. To get educational rights, contact the Registrar’s Office at (803) 231-6944 or

NOTE: Additional dates will be added according to need.


Phase I Submit Application

After attending a parent information session, parents may submit

  1. this Prekindergarten Application,
  2. complete the New Student Registration (open March 1), and
  3. submit a Birth Certificate and Proof of Income.
Phase II Screenings The Office of School Readiness will review your documents and schedule a screening appointment. Your child MUST attend a screening to be accepted for Pre-K.

Phase III Acceptance Letters Sent

If your child qualifies for the program, you will receive an acceptance letter via email. Children who don’t qualify based on income or screening results will be placed on a waitlist and notified of availability.
